Senior Research Scientist & Postdoc Position in Cell Biology of Plant-Microbe Symbiosis: USA

The Belin lab is a newly established research group at the Carnegie Institution’s Embryology Department, located on the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus in Baltimore, MD. We seek motivated postdocs or senior research scientists to study the cell biology of nitrogen-fixing bacteria and their symbioses with plants.

Two projects are currently available, relating to the roles of microbially-produced plant hormones in plant-microbe symbioses and the functions of lipids in bacterial membrane organization; candidates may also develop new projects based on their own research interests. Both positions are full-time with competitive salary and benefit packages and flexible start dates.

The selected candidates will be joining a small, highly collegial laboratory within a large and vibrant research community, with many opportunities to present their work in departments throughout Johns Hopkins and Carnegie. Belin lab members have access to facilities and equipment across both institutes, including a suite of newly installed plant growth chambers and auxiliary growth room, mass spec, and state-of-the-art super-resolution confocal microscopes intended for use during these projects. Dr. Belin is committed to the professional development of all hires, with opportunities available to participate in grant writing, mentorship of junior lab members, and lab management. Postdoc candidates additionally will receive ample support in the preparation of fellowship proposals and applications for independent research positions and will be provided with a formal mentorship committee of senior faculty.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in the life sciences or a related discipline. While expertise in plant cultivation, small molecule characterization, super resolution microscopy, or bacterial genetics are desirable, curious candidates from any area of the life sciences who are enthusiastic about learning new skills are encouraged to apply.
