Technician specialized in environmental microbiology (M/F) : Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) has an open position of a Technician specialized in environmental microbiology. This position is opened for the replacement of one of our colleagues that will be on maternity and potentially also in parental leave.

Main missions

The Technician will provide day-to-day technical support to RDI projects and service delivery activities based on more or less complex protocols, diagnose and solve technical problems and give guidance to more junior technicians.

In this framework, the applicant will be asked to:

  • Intervene in field sampling campaigns,
  • Sample preparations before laboratory analyses,
  • Analyse different microorganisms (bacteria, viruses) using culturing methods or molecular biology tools

General tasks

The applicant may be also asked to carry-out other technical day-to-day activities

  • Interpret the results based on the relevant data to exploit, draft analysis/measurement reports
  • Guarantee the quality of the delivered results
  • Document the work in order to ensure the reproducibility and guarantee the traceability of the results
  • Update the planning of equipment and coordinate their use
  • Understand request from internal/external stakeholders and translate them into a working plan

Ensure maintenance, diagnose and solve technical problems

  • Intervene on instruments to fix or calibrate them properly
  • Ensure the maintenance and control of instruments and equipment
  • Make sure that the instruments he/she is responsible for are used adequately and that hygiene and security requirements/protocols are respected
  • Report any problem related to machines, ask for the intervention of an internal/external expert technician when required

Guidance and training

  • Document best practices
  • Define new simple protocols
  • Propose improvements/best practices
  • Train users on the equipment/instruments/protocols
  • Give guidance to more junior technicians
  • Keep abreast of update and best practices of his/her technique(s)

PROFILE

Education

  • Technical BSc in microbiology, molecular biology or related fields

Competencies

  • Concentration techniques : ultrafiltration, ultracentrifugation
  • Extraction of ADN/ARN
  • Real-time PCR
  • Sequencing
  • Management of human cell culture, bacterial cultures
  • Experience in next-generation sequencing methods (Illumina) is an asset

Language

  • French and proficiency in English
