FEMS is seeking new Directors

FEMS is overseen by a Board of Directors, that collectively provide strategic direction and contribute their individual skills, experience and contacts. The Board of Directors is responsible for checking that we are working efficiently, delivering objectives aligned with our strategy and complying with our policies and relevant laws and legislation. Directors also act as Trustees, ensuring the long-term security of FEMS by ensuring the organization is prepared to meet future challenges.

Director roles available

We are inviting applications to two positions on our Board:

Finance Director – responsible for financial stewardship of our organization, ensuring good financial practices, working with our Strategic Financial Advisor to ensure to long-term financial sustainability of FEMS and working with our investment managers. The Finance Director also complies regular financial reports to keep the other Directors updated on our financial performance and the outlook for the scholarly society and academic publishing sectors. Grants Director  – this role is central to the charitable activities of FEMS. As chair of the Grants Committee it is a key role for overseeing our grants portfolio and ensuring our various grants have a significant positive impact on the microbiological community. It is a significant and high-profile role which has a big impact. (full job description)

Term of office

These roles are for three years, from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2025.

To be officially nominated you will need to submit a letter of support from two FEMS Member Societies, along with your CV and a brief covering letter highlighting why you are applying for the role and how you feel your skills and experience can contribute to FEMS, by 30 April 2022 to the Election Committee by email at electioncommittee@fems-microbiology.org.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present their application to the Council on 9 September 2022 in Split, Croatia. Directors are elected by the Council, which consists of one Delegate from each Member Society and the current Board of Directors.
