An opportunity exists for an experienced researcher to work on the  Innovate-UK/BBSRC funded project “Pilot Algal Manufacturing in the United Kingdom (PALM-UK)”. The goal of this project is to develop scalable biorefinary technology for the manufacturing of high value products in microalgae. The work on the project will involve engineering of microalgal strains to co-produce arange of high value lipids, proteins and chemicals. Experience in working with micro-organisms, molecular biology techniques and protein biochemistry is essential. The successful applicant will join a research programme with a specific focus on developing a robust system for the use of microalgae as a new microbial platform for the manufacturing of high-value products.

The candidate

• will be required to have a PhD in biological/microbiological subject.
• Experience in the growth, manipulation and transformation of algae would be advantageous.
• Demonstration of good communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.

This is a full-time fixed term appointment until 31st March 2019 with a salary in the range of £29,842 to £32,315 per annum.  Due to the time-constrained nature of the funding a prompt start is required. Interviews will be carried out week commencing 14th May 2018.
