Postdoctoral position – oral microbiota and immunotherapy: Sweden

Karolinska Institutet, the Department of Dental Medicine offers a Postdoctoral research position in the research group of Dr. Margaret Sällberg Chen. The position is for a scientist with background in disease conditions associated with dysfunctionality in host immunity and/or oral-gut microbiota. The candidate will be part of a research team that aims at understanding new mechanistic insights of in patients diagnosed with conditions related to pancreatic and liver cancer development. The work comprises monitoring of immunological, microbiome dynamics using clinical speciments, including the latest 3-D microfluidic models to understand the impact of microbiota in cancer including immunotherapy. Disease-specific markers will be investigated to develop diagnostic methods and individualized therapeutic strategies to improve human health. The post doctoral fellows to be recruited to the project will be part of a multidisciplinary team and are expected to take active part in collaborative efforts, in line with the overall aims of this project. The studies will require methodological skills – from handling of human biopsy/biofluid to cell sorting, and/or molecular biology assays related to metagenomics sequencing analysis. The project is suitable for highly motivated researchers in molecular life sciences, especially those who have already knowledge of NGS bioinformatics workflow and resources.

Qualifications

To qualify the applicant must hold a doctoral degree or a foreign qualification equivalent to a doctorate. A PhD in life science or medical science on molecular biology, microbiology, or infection immunology is preferred. In addition to methodological skills, proven interactive experiences with clinical and bioinformatics collaborators is also required. He or she should have excellent organisational competence, writing and presentation skills. Applicants must have excellent communication skills in English.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
