Postdoctoral Research Associate in Synthetic Biology: UK
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work under the supervision of Dr Michael Booth on a research project funded by OxSyBio for a period of up to 24 months. The project involves the development of light-activated synthetic cells for drug delivery into mammalian cells.
The project involves expertise in biochemistry, synthetic biology, and cellular biology. Experience in in vivo and in vitro protein expression, and vesicle formation would be ideal. You should be able to adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols. Experience in the culture and manipulation of mammalian cells will also be helpful. You should be able to test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate. You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities, to supervise other team and lab activities when asked, and to coordinate work to meet specified deadlines. You should be able to represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone, and manage the relationship with the sponsor company.
You should have a PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, biology or a related area, or have submitted a PhD thesis in these areas prior to taking up the appointment. The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, 12 Mansfield Road, Oxford.
