Research Associate - biotechnology / bioenergy: USA

The laboratory of Dr. Michaela TerAvest is seeking a research associate (postdoctoral researcher) to improve understanding of the biofuel producing bacterium Zymomonas mobilis through laboratory evolution. This project will develop technology for conversion of lignocellulosic materials to advanced biofuels. Goals of the project are to generate Z.mobilis strains with high biomass yield and to investigate the potential tradeoff between growth rate and biomass yield in bacteria. The project will be a close collaboration with the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center  and the Joint Genome Institute  and will provide significant opportunities for networking within the bioenergy research field. The candidate will have an opportunity to develop independent projects and to mentor graduate and undergraduate students. The candidate will also receive professional development training through MSU postdoctoral association. Travel funding will be provided for at least one conference per year.
