Awards
Our awards recognise that scientific excellence can be found across our diverse community and at all stages of a scientific career.
FEMS presents the following awards:
- FEMS-Lwoff Award for Achievements in Microbiology – Our most prestigious prize, rewarding those that create high quality knowledge that helps to solve today’s societal problems around microbiology
- FEMS-ASM Mäkelä-Cassell Award – supporting the reciprocal exchange of one member from each organisation to present their research at the other organisation’s main conference
- FEMS Outstanding Early Career Microbiologist Award – promoting and supporting excellent science
- FEMS Special Merit – rewarding those who have made special contributions to further the objectives of FEMS
The FEMS Journals present several awards each year:
- Article Awards – the FEMS Journals and Oxford University Press recognise the best papers submitted to the journals each year
- Poster & Oral Presentation Prizes – the FEMS Journals award Poster & Oral Presentation Prizes to the best presenters at a range of microbiology events that we support
- Poster Prizes during FEMS MICRO 2025 – Each of the seven FEMS journals selected one winning poster, chosen by the respective journal editors for scientific merit during FEMS MICRO 2025
Over the years, FEMS has proudly recognised and celebrated outstanding contributions to microbiology through a number of awards. While the awards listed below are no longer active and are no longer accepting nominations, they represent an important part of FEMS history and our commitment to supporting excellence, innovation, collaboration, and communication across the microbiology community.
